Does anyone know if there will be an Ultimate N version or if the normal Ultimate version be available to european customers ? As an end customer I would prefer the non-N version, not because I like or use the MediaPlayer but I generaly feel that software that has been post-processed usualy has more bugs than the original version, and I prefer not waiting for a specialized version of a patch/servicepack to be released.
As seen on http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_editions.asp most versions have a N version to comply with the EU ruling in the AntiTrust case against Microsoft.
I know this is still speculative as I have yet to see any official word from Microsoft about the versions, but any thougths, speculations or facts are appreciated.

Windows Vista Ultimate and EU AntiTrust
It's likely... but not entirely sure. It's enough to have an N edition for the Home Edition because that's the main one that will be sold in Europe as a lot of households just want a computer with an operating system on. Also just having the ones they have "announced" will satisfy the European Commision and stop hassling Microsoft about it so much :op

Hehe to set the record straight. I want to buy the OS when it comes out, and I prefer not getting a post-processed OS since these are in my opinion alot less stable than the original version. Yes I am aware I can just download MediaPlayer and have the virtualy same OS but have you ever tried a localized version of Windows and compared it to the English version? The English version is much more stable on every install.
And in my opinion the EU AntiTrust case is hogwash.. sorry you're doing a too good job, we're going to punish you for that....

I completely agree. However, I do think that sometimes Microsoft is getting a bit too powerful...
I think that's why their imposing sanctions, because I've heard that Microsoft are more powerful than the British Army and the European Commission, believe it or not and their simply scared of them getting too big. All they have to do is stop everything, and the world grinds to a halt.

If there is one, it should of course be called Windows Vista Penultimate.

A bit different: You're too rich, share with us if you want to sell in Europe.
However, I believe Microsoft might not have had at least part of the issue if they respected their developers a bit. It's ultimately unfair when they get into competition with developers producing software for their operating system.
